Steaming, Simmering, Pan Cooking and Air-Frying Hot Dogs

Indoor cooking does not have to mean a pot at a rolling boil. Gentle heat preserves texture; a brief dry finish adds color.

Steaming

Steam fully cooked hot dogs until hot, then hold only briefly. Steam buns separately and lightly.

Gentle simmering

Use water below a hard boil. Heat through and remove promptly; finish in a dry pan if you want color.

Pan or griddle

Use medium heat and a small amount of oil only when needed. Roll the dog to brown multiple sides.

Air fryer

Arrange a single layer and check early. Air fryers vary dramatically, and thin dogs can blister or dry quickly.
