Practical guide

Mini Hot Dogs and Cocktail Franks

Mini dogs are easy to eat and easy to overproduce. Treat them as appetizer portions and keep them hot, dry and clearly labeled.

Portion planning

Three mini dogs can equal roughly one standard hot dog, but appetizer consumption depends on the rest of the menu.

Serving formats

  • Small split rolls for miniature chili or slaw dogs.
  • Pastry-wrapped mini dogs baked in batches.
  • Skewered pieces with mustard or relish dips.
  • A three-style tasting flight with labels.

Children and choking

Hot dogs and sausages are recognized choking hazards for young children. Do not serve round coin-shaped slices.

Holding quality

Mini buns dry quickly and small sausages cool quickly. Work in smaller batches and replenish.
